The Lady Behind the Dragon
The Short Version
Hey there! I’m Fay Standing, and I’m a bit of a:
- Artistic soul with a passion for making things
- Practical problem-solver with a love for details
- Learning enthusiast who’s always up for a new challenge
- Spreadsheet geek (yes, you read that right!)
- Crafty entrepreneur with a flair for the whimsical
- Dog-parent to Gino, a Portuguese rescue dog who’s always with me in my workshop
The Longer Story
As a credit analyst for a big tech company, I spent most of my adult life working with numbers and spreadsheets.
But, despite my analytical job, I’ve always had a creative side.
In my free time, I loved to paint murals and craft cards for friends and family.
It was a way for me to express myself and tap into my artistic side, even if I didn’t quite make the cut for art school.
Fast forward to the 2020 pandemic lockdown, when I decided to trade in my spreadsheets for a more creative outlet.
I opened an Etsy shop, rented a space at my local Craft Coop, and started selling my handmade goodies – including decorated birdhouses and fairy doors.
That’s when I stumbled upon a tutorial on making dragon bracelets, and I thought, “Why not create a dragon to adorn a bottle?”
And just like that, my dragon obsession began!
A friend asked me to put my dragon on a glass, and the next thing I knew, those three glasses were flying out of my shop.
Today, I’ve expanded my dragon collection to include trinket boxes, necklaces, mugs, and more.
You can find me at craft fairs, where my dragon glasses are always a hit.
People seem to love them, and I’m thrilled to be doing what I love.

The Magic Behind My Dragon Glasses
So, how do I make these magical glasses?
It’s a bit of a process, but I’ll give you the short version:
- I apply a thin layer of polymer clay to the glass, which acts as an anchor for my dragon friend.
- I sculpt and paint the dragon with love and care, and then bake the whole thing in the oven to make the polymer clay virtually indestructible.
- After that, it’s ready for you to use and enjoy! Just remember to hand wash your dragon glass, and avoid putting it in the dishwasher or microwave oven.
